Update 5/15/2023 - watch for status of Tonga's counterpart, Tofua - an even much larger volcano. Geologists scratch their heads on what caused Tonga to erupt and disintegrate. And Tofua is showing signs it will erupt. 😱
WARNING ⚠️ Tsunami on East Coast USA is likely to occur due to erupting LaPalma volcano 🌋 Update 5/15/2023: problem solved! Thank God! Geologists were the heroes.

Ash was immensely heavy. Difficult to breath, yet no longer hot.
4 hrs after eruption, big changes yet opportunity to escape.
194 tons of ash blown onto surface
7 dead - 3 missing
Town of Toodle is set up for emergency relief and rescue
Footprints diverge but they still follow.
Crew chief volunteers to rescue. Ash is cooling but some victims are badly burned. 2d and 3d degree burns
Wounds filled with ash
I-5 freeway traffic at standstill. Car to car - congested
Some were treated with first aid, scarred
Family with 3month old baby, older daughter - still stuck in a camp , they explained. Spent 26 hrs on MTN.
Jeff Hagerman, copter pilot. Approach Moore family - baby Tarra is rescued along with rest of Moore family.
2 days after eruption - found more victims

Erupts again about 2 weeks later

Highly unstable situation was observed by scientists

Volcano began to vibrate ...
Mountain was cracking ...
Blast traveled 600mph
Planes were 200mph ....oh no!
First explosion
Unroofed magma and molton Rock - sudden release if pressure - caused really violent explosion.
Witness described effects.
Dead trees all over.
Giant mudflow resulted! "Debris avalanche" started first
Some People didn't hear the explosion
Logs and debris tore down the valley, destroying 12 bridges and 220 homes.

No life was spared...
Yakama, first town to lose all power
Spokane, WA - everything darkened to midnight.
Rescue efforts becoming hopeless for RED ZONE
Camp Baker destroyed
Ash all over - sky, ground
Footprints found by rescuer....two people laying on road...15 miles from mountain. Faces completely burned...some survivors in groups...badly burned...
Instantaneous deaths discovered..
Rescuers continued to look for life
57 lost their lives - also many mountain goats, bears. ..
Ash clouds began to circle the globe ...
Clean up took years...
Family interviewed. Lost their home in Toodle. Insurance wouldn't cover. Government funds only enough to pay mortgages.
Survivors have lingering fear...
Companies destroyed...some didn't recover...
Roads destroyed...
Salvage efforts resulted in so much wood that 85,000 homes could have been built.
Replanting : 18million trees
Ash areas were too sterile to plant trees
Small contract crew lost their lives
New forest now exists
34 min - phone needs charging
